Kasich Wants to Stop Taking Syrian Refugees Into Ohio Right Now

Karen Kasler

Gov. John Kasich is asking the federal government to stop sending Syrian refugees to Ohio. Statehouse correspondent Jo Ingles has details.

Kasich's spokesman Jim Lynch says the Governor has written to President Obama, saying he doesn’t believe the U.S. should accept additional Syrian refugees because security and safety issues cannot be adequately addressed. And Lynch says, in a written statement, that Kasich is also asking Obama to stop the process of resettling these refugees in Ohio, and that Kasich is also looking at possible additional steps Ohio can take to stop the practice. At least three other governors are also saying they want to suspend efforts to bring Syrian refugees to their states.
