This week on "The State of Ohio": The budget is on its way to a committee that will hammer out the differences before the end of the month deadline. But there are serious issues on both sides that could slow down the talks. A billion dollars is headed back to Ohio employers who paid into the states Bureau of Workers' Comp program. But a critic says the BWC has an outstanding bill that remains unpaid. And more on how Ohio's poorest people are surviving the rising costs of a basic existence.

| Governor sounds off again on Iraq war, after news that Ohio soldiers will be deployed next year. |

Governor Ted Strickland is frustrated that some Ohio National Guard members have been put on alert for possible deployment to Iraq, and he's expressing that frustration to President Bush in the form of a letter. Strickland notes that the Ohio Combat Team was originally told it wouldn't have to go to Iraq for another two years, and the governor calls the change in plans "a breach of faith." Strickland is also skeptical about whether the Ohio Guard personnel are ready and equipped to fight in Iraq, even though some members have already been there.
That was part of an interview with Strickland aired on National Public Radio. |
