| ODOT orders reinspection of bridges similar to the one that collapsed in Minneapolis. |

More than a hundred Ohio bridges are similar in design to the one that collapsed in Minneapolis on Wednesday, and all of them passed inspection in the last year. But the director of the Ohio Department of Transportation has ordered re-inspections of those bridges, and will work with local agencies to get those inspections done quickly. Gov. Ted Strickland says he's pleased with the way Ohio manages the 42,000 bridges across the state.
One hundred and eighty-one bridges in Ohio share the same structure as the I-35W bridge that fell down in Minneapolis. Of those, twelve are under ODOT's authority, and two of those are already under construction - both are on I-90 in Lake County. The process has begun to design and to replace two others, on I-71 in Warren County. The majority of similar bridges are under the authority of city and county agencies, and ODOT says it will do what it can to help local officials check out those spans. |
