Ohio's top elections official is warning Ohio lawmakers to make sure bills are correct before submitting them to her office. Ohio Secretary of State, democrat Jennifer Brunner, says a recent Ohio Supreme Court ruling that invalidated Democratic Governor Ted Strickland's veto of a bill clearly spells out directions for her. In an interview with Ohio Public Radio's Jo Ingles, Brunner explains how this court ruling prevents lawmakers from getting back legislation once its submitted to her office.
Calls placed to House Speaker Jon Husted (R-Kettering) were not returned. The court's ruling could also play a role in a case before a Franklin County court. Unions that oppose recent campaign finance legislation are challenging a new law that they say is unconstitutional because it was changed with the Secretary of State after former Governor Bob Taft signed it. |
