Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. Governor "puzzled and saddened" by Bush's veto of children's health insurance program.
By Karen Kasler - October 3, 2007
President Bush's veto of increased funding to the state children's health insurance program is "unfortunate and sad", according to Gov. Ted Strickland. TStrickland had urged the president not to veto the bill.

he bill would have added $35 billion over five years to the program known as SCHIP. Bush had wanted to add only $5 billion to the program, and he says he's concerned the program will turn into a middle-class entitlement, not the insurance program for poor children it was intended to be. Ohio expanded coverage to uninsured children up to 300% above the poverty level in the current budget, and Strickland says he thinks that won't be affected by the veto.
