Watch This Week's "The State of Ohio" Online
Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Conservative groups bets again that Ohioans don't want a casino, even in bad economic times.
By Mark Heyne - July 30, 2008
The coalition that opposed the last gambling issue in Ohio is now focusing its efforts against a proposed casino near Wilmington in Clinton County. "Vote No Casinos" helped defeat the Learn and Earn issue in 2006. Dave Zanotti is with Ohio Roundtable, part of the effort to stop the latest casino proposal.

Zanotti says the coalition will be focusing on the actual language of the amendment. He doubts the economic benefits being promised by casino supporters will come through, especially in this down economy. My Ohio Now is promoting the issue. That group says the casino-resort would create 5,000 jobs and generate millions in tax revenue that would be shared by Ohio's 88 counties. My Ohio Now is currently gathering signatures to put the issue on the November ballot.
