Some Ohio lawmakers say legislation is needed to better protect children from sexual predators. One bill would target people who collect urine or other bodily fluids from children as a Columbus man recently did. The man was arrested after it was discovered that he had put plastic wrap and a cup under a toilet seat to capture urine from children at a central Ohio swimming pool. Republican Rep. Jim Hughes says his bill would target that type of behavior.
Hughes says the bill would exempt medical professionals. Hughes is also supporting another bill that would make it illegal for an adult who's been convicted of a sex crime to interact with children at public places. The Senate version of the bill is sponsored by Sen. Steve Stivers. Hughes says the legislature will likely take up these issues when lawmakers return from summer recess. |
