This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. Layaway is coming back as a new way to buy gifts in tough economic times.

The holiday shopping season is almost in full swing. But this year consumers may not be spending as much on gifts as the economy continues to slide south. In an effort to help customers and secure sales, retailers are pushing an old tradition - layaway. Some retailers are aggressively pushing their plans, and at least one which had discontinued layaways is bringing them back. Mandie Trimble from Ohio Public Radio member station WOSU reports.
