Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Rail advocates say new ODOT director could engineer passenger train comeback.
By Jo Ingles - January 23, 2009
Rail advocates are cheering the newly appointed director of the Ohio Department of Transportation. The Executive Director of All Aboard Ohio, Ken Pendergast, says he approves of Jolene Molitoris as ODOT's new director, taking over for James Beasley when he retires at the end of this month. Pendergast says Molitoris has a good understanding of different modes of transportation and how they can best serve the public. Pendergast says there's no reason to fear Molitoris will make passenger rail a priority in Ohio over highways or other forms of transportation.

Molitoris currently serves as chairwoman of the Ohio Rail Development Commission. She was the first woman to head the Federal Railroad Administration back in the 90's. She will take over for current ODOT Director James Beasley when he leaves his post at the end of this month.
