This week on "The State of Ohio": The budget is on its way to a committee that will hammer out the differences before the end of the month deadline. But there are serious issues on both sides that could slow down the talks. A billion dollars is headed back to Ohio employers who paid into the state’s Bureau of Workers' Comp program. Expert says better economy means higher prices at the pump.
By Karen Kasler - May 27, 2009
Gas prices have spiked in the last few days. They jumped just before the Memorial Day holiday, traditionally the kickoff to the summer travel season. But then prices at the pump soared again to an average of $2.49 a gallon for self-serve unleaded, according to Triple A. Terry Fleming with the Ohio Petroleum Council says crude oil prices have moved up recently, but says he expects gas prices to rise gradually this summer rather than zoom up.

Fleming also notes that crude oil is up above $62 a barrel - up from $35 a barrel in March. For much of the year gas was under two dollars a gallon, but prices have been steadily rising since April.
