A new report by the Fordham Institute shows more Ohio college students would consider teaching children after they graduate if the state would alleviate some of its certification requirements for educators. Fordham's Terry Ryan says Ohio requires teachers to take more education classes than other states. But he says that doesn't guarantee teachers will be successful in their field. |

| Ryan says national teacher recruitment programs such as "Teach for America" focus on finding students who know the subject area then hold an instructional training session to help them learn specific skills for the classroom. Ryan says the state's certification requirements often prevent charter schools from getting qualified teachers. The Fordham Institute often advocates on behalf of charter schools throughout Ohio. |
