Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

"Snowbirds" urged to remember their permanent home when census time rolls around.
By Jo Ingles - December 18, 2009
Nest year's US Census will take place on April 1. Thousands of Ohioans who routinely flee the cold, Ohio weather each winter are expected to be in warmer locales at that time. That's why the Ohio Department of Aging's Karla Warren is trying to get the word out to so called snowbirds. She says Ohioans who spend winters in Florida should make sure they identify Ohio as their permanent residence, even if they happen to be in Florida at the time. Warren says a lot depends on Ohioans identifying themselves correctly.

Warren says it's likely Ohioans will receive census forms in both states. She says people who identify themselves as Ohioans for tax purposes should also identify themselves as buckeyes for the census count.
