Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": The Senate version of the budget is on its way, with just a few weeks remaining to hammer out differences with the House. Lawmakers try to clarify the state auditor's role with JobsOhio. And we revisit and update two controversial issues from the last year - the abortion debate in Ohio and the state's new exotic animals law and the facility it created.

Speaker says goverment should help struggling small businesses - though the state is in trouble too.
By Bill Cohen - January 12, 2010
Small businesses across Ohio are having trouble getting loans from banks, so state government may step in to help. At least that's what the Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives is hoping. That's Democrat Armond Budish.

But Budish isn't saying how Ohio would find the extra money to help grant loans to small companies. In fact, he concedes that next year, legislators could face another huge budget crisis, and lawmakers better start planning for that now.
