Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. GOP candidate for governor talks taxes, jobs and the economy in exclusive interview.
By Bill Cohen - March 4, 2010
Republican candidate for governor John Kasich continues to push the idea of phasing out Ohio's graduated state income tax, but he's refusing to put a time-frame on it, or single out a lot of government programs he thinks should be eliminated to pay for the tax cut. Kasich has just finished a half hour interview with Ohio Public Radio and TV's Karen Kasler and Bill Cohen. They pressed him on how realistic it would be to wipe out the income tax, since it brings in about 40% of all the tax revenue that state government collects, but Kasich contended that slashing taxes would attract new companies and jobs...and that new tax revenue would make up for the lost tax revenue. Here's an edited excerpt from the interview.

Bill Cohen and Karen Kasler report (3:19)
The full half-hour interview with the former congressman will be featured this coming weekend on "The State of Ohio", on PBS station statewide. Next week - an exclusive talk with Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland, who's running for re-election.
