Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

President of state's largest teachers union heads to DC to argue for education bill.
By Fred Kight - July 26, 2010
The president of the Ohio Education Association will meet with Ohio Senators Sherrod Brown and George Voinovich today to try to save teachers' jobs in Ohio. Patricia Frost-Brooks will push for passage of the Education Job's Fund. That's a $10 billion emergency aid package that would provide $365 million to the Buckeye State and reinstate more than 5,000 educators who were pink-slipped last spring. Frost-Brooks says the money would also save the jobs of school bus drivers, guidance counselors and nurses. And Frost-Brooks says if the Education Jobs Fund bill does not pass, the impact could be devastating. She says class sizes would likely increase and that will have a direct effect on students' opportunities of continuing their education after high school.

But Frost-Brooks says if the legislation does pass, students will have a better chance to succeed. The House has already passed the Education Jobs Fund and its version includes $800 million in cuts to education programs, cuts which have the Obama administration talking about a veto.
