Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. Bonuses for veterans from bond sales approved by voters last year will soon go out.
By Jo Ingles - August 24, 2010
Today is the first day that recent war veterans from Ohio can apply for the bonuses Ohioans approved on the statewide ballot last fall. Gov. Ted Strickland says these bonuses are for Ohioans who are veterans of conflicts in the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq. Strickland says this is a way for Ohioans to say "thank you" to its veterans.

Veterans or their surviving families could be eligible to receive up to five thousand dollars in bonuses. Vets who want to apply can do so online at www.veteransbonus.Ohio.org. They can also contact their local veterans services offices or call 877-OHIO-VET.
