This week on "The State of Ohio": The budget is on its way to a committee that will hammer out the differences before the end of the month deadline. But there are serious issues on both sides that could slow down the talks. A billion dollars is headed back to Ohio employers who paid into the state’s Bureau of Workers' Comp program. Highly decorated Vietnam vet who was prisoner of war with John McCain to head veterans agency.
By Karen Kasler - December 7, 2010
Gov-elect John Kasich has added another name to his cabinet - and he's not a former government official. He's retired Air Force Colonel Tom Moe of Lancaster, much-decorated former prisoner of war in Vietnam. Moe spent five years in the infamous "Hanoi Hilton" with Republican presidential nominee and US Senator John McCain. Moe has has been politically active in the last few years, speaking at the Republican National Convention in 2008 and campaigning for Kasich this year. And starting next year, he'll head up the Department of Veterans' Services. And Moe says his mission is clear.

Kasich says the 67-year-old Moe will be assisted by a Gulf War veteran who hasn't been selected, and together they'll do what Kasich calls an analysis of the department, which was created by Gov. Strickland in 2008. 70% of the agency's budget comes from the federal government.
