Some women on trial for killing their husbands or boyfriends use a legal defense called “battered woman syndrome.” Their lawyers contend that years of violent abuse the women have suffered should be considered a mitigating factor that might explain their crime. Prosecutors may try to discredit that legal defense, but the Ohio Supreme Court has just issued a ruling that puts a limit on what prosecutors may do. Statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen reports. |
