Governor reacts to threat of lawsuit from African American legislators over cabinet diversity.

For the first time since African-American Ohio legislators threatened to file civil rights complaints against him, Gov. John Kasich is defending the lack of diversity in his cabinet. Of 22 cabinet appointments so far, none is black, latino, or Asian. Black lawmakers last week threatened to take the governor before the Ohio civil rights commission, a federal civil rights agency, or even a court. But Kasich doesn’t seem ruffled.

Two permanent cabinet director vacancies remain to be filled: they are at the Ohio Lottery and the department of Job and Family Services.
