Minority Democrats in the Ohio House of Representatives say they’re upset that lobbyists for special interest groups have helped write legislative bills in secret. The Democrats are pushing a proposal that would require a lawmaker always be involved when a lobbyist works with legislative staffers to craft a bill. Rep. Ted Celeste says recently, a lobbyist for charter school interests helped write a bill softening regulation on the schools…but it was impossible to link any particular legislator with the move.
Another proposal Democrats are pushing would declare that all records from a public-private partnership are public records. That plan is aimed at shedding more light on new Republican-backed ventures that involve privatizing some state government programs. |
