Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

As Senators vote to create new primary, Democratic lawmaker proposes solution to future map problem.
By Bill Cohen - October 20, 2011
The Ohio Democratic Party is threatening to wage a referendum over the new Congressional map. But one Democratic member of the Ohio House says he’s got an even better idea. In an interview with Ohio Public Radio’s Jo Ingles, Rep. Ted Celeste explains he wants Ohioans to be able to do more than just say no.

Celeste says lawmakers should get together to come up with one plan for a constitutional amendment. He notes lawmakers nearly reached agreement on a plan a couple of years ago. Democrats say they are hoping House and Senate Republicans will go back to the drawing board on the map. There’s no indication, at this point, that will happen. Lawmakers are, however, likely to move the primary date next year. The Ohio Senate has already given its approval to move the Congressional primary to June and the house is expected to do the same.
