The State Auditor says the Ohio Department of Transportation could save $6 million a year. One suggestion from Auditor Dave Yost is to have the agency sell off some of its heavy equipment such as road graders and asphalt pavers, because many of the machines are rarely used.
Another suggestion from the auditor - the transportation department should consider closing two highway rest-stops along I-70 in Eastern Ohio. Yost says they cost about a quarter million dollars to maintain every year and Yost says closing them wouldn't inconvenience drivers much, because there are plenty of restroom facilities close by at truck stops. |
