Campaign contributions from a former financial broker whos already serving time in prison after being convicted of embezzling millions of dollars are again raising eyebrows of some in the state government. This time around, there are questions about whether Frank Gruttadauria gave illegal campaign cash to State Treasurer Joe Deters as a bribe in an attempt to avoid criminal prosecution. A Cuyahoga County grand jury has indicted Gruttadauria on ten new counts, including bribery and money laundering. Deters claims the allegations are politically motivated. The controversy over this issue is motivating one state lawmaker to introduce legislation designed to prevent this kind of thing from happening in the future. Democratic state senator Marc Dann explains his plan to Ohio Public Radios Jo Ingles. Senator Dann says his legislation would not only affect the state treasurers office, it would also require other state agencies to bid contracts for goods and services. |
