State Experiments With High Tech Way to Receive Child Support.
By Bill Cohen - January 30, 2004
Ohioans who receive child support payments may soon have a new way of collecting the money. Instead of being sent a check, they may choose to get the money with a debit card. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services plans to experiment with the new program, starting in May, in six counties –- Clermont, Fairfield, Franklin, Greene, Holmes, and Richland. John Allen speaks for the agency, and he talked with Statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen about the likely advantages of the switch. The agency figures if 60 per cent of the child support recipients decide to switch from a check to a debit card, the state could save $2.5 million a year.
