But there are serious issues on both sides that could slow down the talks. A billion dollars is headed back to Ohio employers who paid into the states Bureau of Workers' Comp program. But a critic says the BWC has an outstanding bill that remains unpaid. And more on how Ohio's poorest people are surviving the rising costs of a basic existence.

Death row inmate Alton Coleman won't be allowed to testify in person at an
upcoming clemency hearing after all. A published newspaper report says the convicted
murderer will appear at the April 16th hearing before the State Parole Board,
but Ohio corrections officials say - no way. Andrea Dean speaks for the Corrections
Department. She tells statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen - death row inmates
are never allowed to testify in person at clemency hearings |

Dean says Alton Coleman's clemency hearing is being delayed until April 16th, but it's to give his lawyer -- not Coleman himself -- more time to prepare. Coleman's lethal injection is scheduled for April 26th.
After the clemency hearing, the parole board will recommend to Governor Taft whether he should commute Coleman's death sentence into life in prison. Usually, the parole board recommends no clemency. |
