Hanging chads, dimpled chads, and pregnant chads. When you hear those terms, you likely think of the problems associated with the presidential election in Florida. But the fact is that 70 of Ohio's 88 counties use the same type of punch card voting machines as are used in the Sunshine State. And some local elections officials are questioning how Ohio would have handled the situation if it occurred here. But the state's top elections chief says Ohio wouldn't have many of the same problems Florida did. In an interview with Ohio Public Radio's Jo Ingles, secretary of state Ken Blackwell explains why.
Blackwell has been speaking to 300 local elections officials at a conference in Columbus. He plans to hold a two-day elections summit next month at a central Ohio resort to scrutinize voting procedures even more thoroughly. |
