Proof Of Automobile Insurance Law May Change.
By Jo Ingles - March 22, 2001
You might have received it in the mail at some point; a letter from the state asking you to send back proof that you carry automobile insurance. Ohio law requires you to fill it out and send it back immediately. And, if you don't, you could face stiff fines and have your driver's license revoked.

One Ohio lawmaker wants to do away with this process. Democratic State Senator Leigh Herrington's proposal would still make it illegal to drive without insurance on your car. But it would do away with the random mailings to Ohioans. In an interview with Ohio Public Radio's Jo Ingles, Herrington explains the current system is too intrusive.
Jo Ingles reports (2:59)
Herrington says there's a lot of support for his proposal from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.
