Water Sampling in Ohio Well Field.
August 19, 2002
A water sampling investigation is set to begin today in the Little Hocking water well field. This comes after the chemical, C-8, was found there several months ago. C-8 is used at Dupont's nearby Washington Works plant and the chemical company plans to measure the concentration of the chemical near test well number four. Little Hocking Water Association Manager Bob Griffin says, even though the test well does not supply drinking water, some of their customers are still concerned.

Griffin says right now the company is providing water to customers from three production wells and the highest level of C-8 in those is about two parts per billion. He says Dupont has been asked to conduct the field investigation near test well four because that's where the highest levels of C-8 have been found.

The test well has more than 37 parts per billion of C-8, with 150 parts per billion tentatively designated as the safe level. Griffin says the investigation will be overseen by an independent agency to insure proper testing procedures are followed. Little Hocking serves over 4000 homes and business in Washington and Athens counties
