Welfare Officials Wary Of Loosening Food Stamp Rules.

Ohio welfare officials say they're not ready to relax rules for getting foodstamps, even though thousands of Ohioans who are eligible for the government help are not getting it.
Anti-hunger groups say only 58% of eligible Ohioans are receiving food stamps, a modern-day low. The activists blame a rule requiring recipients to re-apply every 3 months, instead of every 6 months.

A spokesman for the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services says welfare officials don't object to a more relaxed rule, but they're worried about reaction from the feds. Jon Allen tells Statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen, Ohio used to have a looser guideline, but it backfired.
