Combat veterans are being asked to preserve their war stories for posterity in the Library of Congress. Ohio Republican Congressman Bob Ney of eastern Ohio leads the Veterans History Project, which hopes to gather stories from as many living veterans as possible. Stories are preserved on videotape or audiotape or in writing. Ney says the stories are funny, some are disturbing, but all are moving. Ney says the pressure is on to find as many soldiers and sailors from both World Wars, since 15-hundred veterans are dying every day. Interview teams will meet veterans at the Ohio State Fair today, and ask veterans who want to share their experiences to bring along photos, letters, journals and medals. |
