Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Poll from education group shows Ohioans want education to be a top spending priority.
By Jo Ingles - September 16, 2004
A new poll by an education foundation shows most Ohioans want education spending to be a top priority for state and federal governments. The poll conducted by Knowledgeworks also shows that nearly nine out of ten Ohioans think it’s important that all children have the opportunity to attend college. In an interview with Ohio Public Radio’s Jo Ingles, Andrew Benson of Knowledgeworks explains 800 Ohioans surveyed think more needs to be done to enhance educational opportunities for children.

The poll shows Ohioans express support for the federal No Child Left Behind act but 47 percent of those surveyed also say there is too much emphasis on testing in public schools. Knowledgeworks officials hope this survey will encourage lawmakers to make education their top priority.
