This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. Wipe out the federal income tax. Withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq. And repeal laws that control drugs, alcohol, and prostitution. That’s the unusual mix of policy stands being touted by the presidential candidate of the Libertarian Party…and he’s been spreading that message here in Ohio because his name is on the ballot here. Michael Bednarek says the federal government is much too intrusive…..whether it comes to people’s wallets…..or their everyday lives. In an interview with Ohio Public Radio’s Bill Cohen, Bednarek says the power of government must be slashed. On foreign policy, Bednarek says U.S. military policies are backfiring, making more enemies than friends. He says the U.S. should quickly withdraw its troops from Iraq and from dozens of OTHER countries. In his words – “The U.S. should stop playing policeman of the world.” Bednarek’s name is on Ohio’s presidential ballot and the ballot of 47 other states. In the LAST presidential election in Ohio, the Libertarian candidate, Harry Browne, received about one-third of one per cent of the vote. |
