Triple-A is estimating a record number of travelers to hit the roads this Thanksgiving weekend. But Pennsylvania won’t rake in record revenues on its turnpike, because unionized toll workers walked off the job at 4am on Wednesday. The turnpike’s Bill Capone tells Ohio Public Radio’s Karen Kasler managers are taking over the booths on Thanksgiving, and drivers will pay a flat 2 dollar fee for cars and 15 dollars for trucks, rather than paying from tickets. Workers are on strike because of disputes over wages, job protection and health care. No new talks are scheduled. It’s the first strike in the 64-year history of the Pennsylvania Turnpike |
