For several months, national and Ohio health officials have been telling people – because there’s a shortage of flu vaccine, don’t even try to get a flu shot unless you’re 65 or older, pregnant, chronically ill, or a nursing home resident. Now, the guidelines are being changed. The biggest one involves lowering the age thresh-hold to people 50 and older. Kristopher Weiss speaks with the Ohio Health Department explained to statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen why the guidelines are being relaxed. This winter, the vaccine shortage was caused by the discovery that the vaccine from one of the nation’s two suppliers may have been contaminated. That cut the vaccine supply nearly in half. |
