This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. Columbus mayor Michael Coleman wouldn't say much about his plans to run for governor, as he announced a city-wide recycling program at a Columbus trash plant today/Friday. The former city councilman says he has heard from fellow Democratic mayor Don Plusquellic of Akron, who has said he won't seek the party's nomination if Coleman wants to run. Coleman has said he would make a decision by the end of the month. Other possible Democratic candidates include State Senator Eric Fingerhut of suburban Cleveland, Northeast Ohio congressman Sherrod Brown, former gubernatorial candidate and attorney general Lee Fisher and controversial talk show host and former Cincinnati mayor Jerry Springer. |
