This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. Hunters in 12 counties may be able to take three deer this fall, when last year they were able to take only two. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says the new three-deer limit in a total of 38 counties could help control the deer population in central, south, southeastern and southwestern Ohio. But Dave Risley with ODNR says there will still be a problem near cities like Cleveland. Deer limits would remain at one deer for 20 counties in western Ohio, and two deer for a 30 county-area that stretches from northern Cincinnati around Mansfield and into northeast Ohio. The state will hold a hearing on the new rules on Thursday, March 10 in Columbus. |
