Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Insect deadly to millions of trees turns up in another Ohio county.
By Karen Kasler - July 19, 2005
A bug that's been blamed in the deaths of millions of ash trees is back in central Ohio. The emerald ash borer, which has destroyed trees throughout Michigan, has turned up in Delaware County north of Columbus. The state says the bug was eradicated in Franklin County, but it's been found in seven other counties in northwest Ohio. Melissa Brewer with the agriculture department talked with Ohio Public Radio's Karen Kasler. This new appearance of the emerald ash borer isn't the only problem for the state right now. The agriculture department just recently learned that a request for more than $10 million from the federal government isn't on its way. The state plans to stop its tree cutting for now and pick it up the process again this fall, when new federal funds are expected.
