This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. The heat in Ohio right now is not only hard on humans, it’s also tough for fish in ponds throughout Ohio. The Ohio Division of Wildlife’s Elmer Heyeb says the agency has received a couple of calls a day in recent weeks about fish kills in ponds. He says the heat deals pond fish a double whammy. Heyeb says the oxygen rich water in ponds is being pushed closer to the surface right now. But that’s also where the water is warmer so fish are suffering from the heat. Heyeb says there’s not much Ohioans can do to help fish beat the summer heat at this point. He says the best thing is to make sure ponds are properly aerated in the spring. |
