This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Hundreds of anti-war candle-light vigils were staged last night in support of an anti-war protest being held near President Bush's Texas ranch. Cindy Sheehan is demanding a meeting with the president, and her supporters here say it's the least he can do. More than a hundred people gathered around the Athens County Courthouse for a 30 minute silent vigil. Some carried signs which read "Stop the War" and "Exit plan now." Area resident Chuck Carroll said he organized the Athens event after reading postings on the Move-On-dot-org website. One of those who responded as Marilyn Lambert-Fisher of Rochester, New York, who was visiting friends and wanted to participate. Fisher's oldest son is in the Army Reserves and has served one hitch in Iraq and Fisher says he might be deployed again. Local peace activist Art Gish says many of those at the vigil were new faces and he senses an increase in anti-war sentiment. |
