Ohioans are spending about twice as much for a gallon of gas now as they did this time last year. And one Democratic state lawmaker says she thinks these high gas prices could mean bigger problems in the long term. State Representative Sandra Harwood agrees with the president’s decision to draw on oil being held in reserve. But she thinks federal and state lawmakers should immediately lower the price of gas by reducing of eliminating taxes on it. Harwood fears these high gas prices will have a major devastating impact on Ohio’s already fledgling economy. Harwood says she realizes immediate relief from the state is unlikely since Ohio lawmakers won’t return until the first of October. In the meantime, she says it’s important that Ohioans try to conserve gasoline as much as possible, as they did in the 1970’s. |
