New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. Ohio has executed its 17th killer since reinstituting the death penalty in 1999. 32 year old Herman Dale Ashworth was put to death by lethal injection at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville this morning. Alan Johnson from the Columbus Dispatch was a media witness. He talked with Ohio Public Radio's Karen Kasler. Ashworth is the fourth so-called "volunteer" to waive his appeals and refuse to fight his sentence. Ashworth died for the beating death of 40 year old Daniel Baker near a bar in Newark in 1996. |
