Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Tax amnesty program nets six times the expected goal.
By Bill Cohen - March 2, 2006
Ohio's just-completed tax amnesty program has brought in $63 million. Ohioans and businesses that owed income, sales, and with-holding taxes that tax officials didn't know about were told -- if they paid up now, they would avoid prosecution, penalties, and half of the interest charges. Ohio tax commissioner Bill Wilkins told Ohio Public Radio's Bill Cohen the $63 million was more than he was counting on. Wilkins says more than 4,700 applications for amnesty were sent in to the tax department, and many contained multiple tax returns.
