Ohio's just-completed tax amnesty program has brought in $63 million. Ohioans and businesses that owed income, sales, and with-holding taxes that tax officials didn't know about were told -- if they paid up now, they would avoid prosecution, penalties, and half of the interest charges. Ohio tax commissioner Bill Wilkins told Ohio Public Radio's Bill Cohen the $63 million was more than he was counting on. Wilkins says more than 4,700 applications for amnesty were sent in to the tax department, and many contained multiple tax returns. |
