Cleveland loses bid to host 2008 Republican convention.
By Karen Kasler - September 27, 2006
Cleveland won't host the GOP convention of 2008. The Republican National Committee has chosen Minneapolis/St. Paul as the site for its presidential convention two years from now. Jason Mauk with the Ohio GOP says the party is disappointed, but organizers knew there were obstacles to being named the host city.

And Mauk says no one should think the choice means that Ohio is not important to the national party in the upcoming midterm elections. But the choice of Minneapolis puts the Republicans in and near the key states of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. John Kerry won Minnesota in 2004.
