New Ohio governor Ted Strickland is spending his first day on the job, meeting with the cabinet officials he's appointed and pondering who to appoint to the slots he has yet to fill. After a midnight swearing-in ceremony, the first Democrat to sit in the governor's chair in sixteen years arrived at work around 8 in the morning. He told reporters about two issues he hopes to tackle pretty quickly.
Strickland's first action took place just minutes after his swearing in. He issued an executive order, telling all state employees who work under him that they may not accept gifts worth more than $20 from people who want state contracts or grants. |
