Scientists believe the tree-killing beetle entered the U.S. in the Detroit area eight to ten years ago, coming in from China -- probably a stowaway in wooden shipping material. In those years, the bug has killed an estimated 20 million trees in Michigan and has likely infested millions more in Ohio and other states. Now scientists are wondering if another Chinese import might finally bring the borer under control. WOSU's Sam Hendren reports... |
