In the fear and rage that gripped America after the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, virtually all Japanese-Americans were rounded up from their homes on the west coast and sent to internment camps, throughout the western U.S. Many months later, to further reduce the perceived threat from these native-born Americans, many were forcibly dispersed across the country into the heartland. Over 3000 people of Japanese heritage ended up here in Northeast Ohio. From member station WCPN, David C. Barnett has this report. |
