Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

State agriculture director says controversial new labels on milk are a good idea.
By Karen Kasler - March 18, 2008
The melee over labels on milk continues, as producers struggle with a new rule that requires a disclaimer on milk containers in Ohio. That disclaimer must tell consumers that there's no difference between milk made with growth hormones and milk made without them. Some producers have said since they can't fit all that information on their labels, it amounts to a ban on claims that milk is free of growth hormones. But state agriculture director Robert Boggs isn't buying that.

The new rule, which was designed to crack down on misleading claims about milk, is in effect for 90 days. And Boggs says the state agriculture department is taking in input from dairies and milk producers.
