Portsmouth hosted politicians Wednesday. During the morning Gov. Ted Strickland came to his old Congressional district, campaigning for presumed Democratic nominee Barack Obama in advance of a visit from Obama's likely opponent. Several hours later an estimated 1,200 people crowded into the Portsmouth High School gymnasium to hear presumptive Republican nominee John McCain. From Ohio public radio station WOSU, Sam Hendren reports. |

| McCain took his fifth trip in four months to Ohio - a sixth visit to Cincinnati was planned for next week. Obama scheduled a visit to Dayton Friday and Cincinnati Monday, his third and fourth respectively since successfully ending his primary battle with Hillary Rodham Clinton. Aboard his "Straight Talk Express" campaign bus, McCain cited the case of the last person to win the White House without winning
the state: John F. Kennedy. |
