This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Ohio executed a death row inmate today. Gregory Bryant Bey was pronounced dead from a lethal injection at 10:41am at the Southern Ohio Correctional Institution in Lucasville. Columbus Dispatch reporter Alan Johnson was one of the media witnesses for the execution. He says Bryant Bey contended in his last statement that he was framed.
Johnson says Bryant Bey's guilt was established in both cases. He was convicted of the 1992 killing of collectibles shop owner Dale Pinkelman in Toledo, a crime for which Bryant Bey received the death penalty. Bryant Bey was also convicted of murdering Pete Mihas, a Toledo restaurant owner. That killing took place in the parking lot of Miha's business just three months after the Pinkelman's murder. In his final statement, Bryant Bey said he was framed and was the victim of poor legal help. |
