As the state and businesses look to cut labor costs, furloughs are becoming a prevalent option. Furloughs are essentially days off without pay. While that might sound like a better option than laying off workers, Ohio Wesleyan University economic professor Bob Gitter says it is not always the best option in every case.
Gitter says one advantage of furloughs is that employees generally can keep their health care coverage. He says that can be especially important in tough economic times. |
